Man fatally shot, policeman wounded in alleged confrontation in Spanish Town

A man was fatally shot and a policeman injured during an alleged confrontation today in the community of Ebonyvale, Spanish Town, St Catherine.

The injured corporal, who is assigned to the St Catherine South Police Division, was rushed to hospital and is reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Damion Martin, a resident of the community.

Reports are that a joint police team, acting on intelligence, went to a premises on Lignum Drive in the area, where they came under gunfire.

During the exchange, Martin and the police corporal were shot.

Martin was transported to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police reported that a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Additionally, a man was taken into custody for questioning.
