The Government has welcomed the decision of the United States to downgrade its travel advisory for Jamaica from Level 3 to Level 2, urging Americans to "exercise increased caution" rather than reconsider travel.

The Government says the upgrade is an acknowledgement of strides made by Jamaica to improve public safety and security for Jamaicans and visitors.

“This revision reflects the hard work of our security forces and Government agencies. We have been deliberate and data-driven in our approach to reducing crime and improving the safety of our people," said Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness in a statement Thursday.

"Jamaica remains one of the most vibrant and welcoming destinations in the world, and we are pleased that our progress is being recognised,” he added.

Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett, said the move will have positive implications for Jamaica's tourism sector

“This is a vote of confidence in Brand Jamaica. Our tourism industry is built on safety, excellence, and world-class service. The updated advisory will strengthen traveller confidence and further position Jamaica as a top destination for leisure, business, and investment.”

For her part, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, says the update as a reflection of effective diplomacy and sustained engagement.

“We have maintained open and constructive dialogue with our international partners, including the United States, and this outcome demonstrates the value of that collaboration. Jamaica remains committed to maintaining international standards of safety and transparency in all our engagements.”

The Government has reaffirms its commitment to security, good governance, and continuous improvement.
