The Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) has signed a two-year contract with auditing firm Mundle Assurance Services in a bid to clear the corporation's backlog of outstanding audited financial statements.

KSAMC Chairman and Mayor of Kingston, Andrew Swaby, says the statements have been outstanding since 2016.

"It is no secret that since about 2021, the auditor general in her report has indicated that we have not yet had audited financial statements since 2016. And what we have done is to sign a contract with them [Mundle Assurance] to seek outside help to see how we can bring it up to date," he says.

Swaby further states that commitments given to the Public Accounts Committee to have the statements completed were not honoured.

He says the contract with the firm was signed at the last meeting of the KSAMC. He explains that staff from the company will be based at the KSAMC to carry out the work.

The KSAMC Advisory Committee has been tasked with monitoring the progress of the contract.
