Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton says he is “getting info” about protest action that has caused disruptions to the public health sector.

He did not indicate which category of healthcare workers are involved.

“Going into a meeting now,” he told The Gleaner a short while ago.

The comments by Tufton come amid reports that members of the Jamaica Midwives' Association (JMA) are currently on strike.

The reason for the protest action is unclear.

“I don’t want to comment, not at this time," Sharon Banbury, president of the JMA, told The Gleaner when contacted.

There are reports that an undetermined number of nurses at several hospitals have called in sick.

More details to come.
