PNP Rally | PNP will bring development to Westmoreland Central, say supporters

People’s National Party (PNP) supporters from Westmoreland Central have voiced disappointment in the representation by the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) in the constituency, citing poor road conditions and youth unemployment as key issues.

The concerns were raised this afternoon ahead of the official start of the PNP's mass rally at Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay, St James.

Abigail Malcolm, the PNP's councillor-caretaker for the Cornwall Mountain Division in Westmoreland Central, told The Gleaner that the issues affecting the constituency are why the party’s Member of Parliament candidate for the area, Dwayne Vaz, must win the seat in the upcoming September 3 polls.

Vaz is contesting the seat against the JLP's George Wright and the Jamaica Progressive Party’s Kathleen Greenwood.

"We are out here supporting our next MP for Central Westmoreland, Dwayne Vaz, because the time has come and the time is now. When you look at Central Westmoreland, I have not seen anything that the JLP has done differently," said Malcolm.

"We have the worst roads, the worst infrastructure, no development for the parish, and no job creation for the youths. When Dwayne Vaz becomes MP, I can assure you that all those problems will be fixed," Malcolm continued confidently.

Meanwhile, Vaz said that while the current mood at the rally is jovial, PNP supporters and the party's leadership must not forget that there is work to be done leading up to the September 3 polls.

"We are feeling very energised because the time has come, and we are having fun and enjoying ourselves, but the mission is serious, and we know what we need to do on September 3 to ensure victory for the PNP," said Vaz.
