People’s National Party (PNP) President Mark Golding has extended congratulations to Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Leader Dr Andrew Holness on his victory in Wednesday’s poll.

Speaking at the PNP’s Old Hope Road headquarters in St Andrew shortly after it became clear that his party had lost the election, Golding said democracy sometimes “brings bitter disappointment”, but must be cherished.

“I accept the results of these elections, and although I'm obviously very disappointed in the outcome, I think it is only correct to expressly acknowledge the success that our opponents have managed to gain today,” he said.

PNP General Secretary Dayton Campbell shared similar sentiments, saying, “We did not get the result that we wanted today,” he said, while noting that the party is fully committed to the democratic process.

The JLP is projected to win 34 seats with the PNP taking 29.
