Man shot dead after allegedly firing at police in St Catherine operation

A 25-year-old man who allegedly fired at police during an operation in Frazer's Content, St Catherine, on Wednesday was shot and killed.

The deceased has been identified as Remmar Walker, otherwise called 'Zazzie', of Middle Road, Frazers Content and Old Harbour in St Catherine.

Members of the St Catherine Proactive Investigation Unit, along with other police personnel, were conducting the operation around 5 a.m.

During the operation, the team reportedly entered a premises when a man exited the house with a gun in his hand.

The police reportedly shouted to him, but he allegedly began shooting at the lawmen.

The police took defensive action and returned fire, and the man reportedly retreated inside the house, reports say.

When the shooting subsided and checks were made, Walker was found suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

Police said one MK111 Trooper .357 Magnum revolver, loaded with three live rounds and two spent shells, was seized during the incident.

Walker was assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the fatal shooting.
