The trial of four men charged with stealing petrol valued at more than $44,000 from the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is scheduled to continue before the St Catherine Parish Court on March 23.

The accused are JUTC driver Carlton Martin, and labourers Bobby Anderson, Popeto Jarret and Oneil Downs.

The are charged with simple larceny.

The trial started on Monday with a JUTC senior official telling the court that she received information about the incident that triggered the investigation, resulting in the men being charged.

The witness also identified Martin as a driver employed at the company.

The witness will continue giving evidence when the matter resumes next week.

The Clerk of Courts outlined the allegations that about 9 p.m. on September 29, 2023, the men were held at Lakes Pen, Spanish Town, removing petrol from a JUTC bus.

The petrol, valued at $44,800, was retrieved by security personnel and the men were arrested and later charged.

Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Alleyne is presiding.
