Champs 2026 | JC's Joseph Salmon breaks 15-year-old Class One discus record to claim gold
Joseph Salmon of Jamaica College broke the boys’ Class One discus record twice en route to winning gold at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships at the National Stadium on Thursday.
The defending champion and pre-event favourite recorded a best of 67.55 metres, surpassing the previous mark of 66.88 metres set by Travis Smikle in 2011.
Calabar High School’s Kamari Kennedy claimed silver with a throw of 60.84 metres, while Munro College’s Rajeem Streete took bronze at 59.13 metres.
Salmon first broke Smikle’s record with a throw of 67.35 metres on his second attempt before bettering it later in the series with his 67.55-metre effort.
