Champs 2026 | Day 3 Top Performer | KC's Jason Pitter runs sub-46 to break Class Two 400m record
Breaking a record set by Christopher Taylor and becoming the first Class Two athlete to run under 46 seconds in the 400 metres belongs to Jason Pitter of Kingston College.
Pitter won the boys’ Class Two 400m final at Thursday in a time of 45.76 seconds at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships.
He shattered the Taylor’s 46.33 mark set in 2016, moving to third on the all-time Jamaica under 18 list for the 400m, behind Taylor (45.27) and athletics legend Usain Bolt (45.35).
Pitter's 45.76-second run was not only the fastest in Class Two but also the fastest time of the night, surpassing the 46.21 seconds run by Paul Henry to win Class One gold.
Honourable mention:
Another noteworthy result on day three came from Joseph Salmon, who broke the boys’ Class One discus record twice while winning gold.
The defending champion threw 67.55 metres, surpassing Travis Smikle’s 66.88-metre record set in 2011.
Salmon first broke the record with 67.35 metres on his second attempt, then extended it to 67.55 metres on his fifth throw.
