The police have charged a 35-year-old welder after he allegedly used a gun to attack a man he accused of stealing $5,000 in Petersfield, Westmoreland, earlier this month.

Bryan Webster, of Campbellton in Petersfield, is charged with possession of a firearm with intent to injure, assault at common law, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and two counts of malicious destruction of property, a statement from the police said Monday.

According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the incident occurred about 7 a.m. on March 4 in Campbellton, when Webster allegedly went to a man’s home and accused him of taking the money.

Police say an argument developed during which Webster reportedly hurled stones and a blunt object at the man, causing injuries and damaging a window.

The complainant reportedly ran inside his house, but investigators allege Webster broke a padlock from the veranda gate and pointed a firearm at him.

A report was made and an investigation launched, leading to Webster’s arrest during an operation in the community.

He was charged two days later after statements were recorded.
