It was a quinella for Calabar High in the Class One boys 110m hurdles final as De'Jour Russell bettered his record set last year in the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

Russell was composed and looked under no threat as he stormed to a time of 13.10 seconds, eclipsing last year’s record of 13.21. His team-mate Orlando Bennett crossed the line next in 13.30 seconds, while St Jago’s Rasheed Broadbell took the bronze in 13.43 seconds.

There was also a record in Class Two, as St Jago’s Vashaun Vascianna won the event in 13.35, smashing Michaal O’Hara of Calabar’s record of 13.45 set in 2013. Jahvel Granville took the silver in 13.62 to complete Jago’s quinella, while Calabar’s Schavon Carr was third in 13.68 seconds.

Another record was broken in Class Three when Jamaica College’s Neil-Matthew Sutherland’s win in 12.87 seconds bettered Jahvel Granville’s 12.90 set last year. Second place went to Calabar’s David Thomas (13.20) and David Williams (13.33) was third.

Hydel’s Ray-donna Lee turned in a sensational performance to capture the girls Class Two 100m hurdles in new meet record of 12.95 seconds.

Lee, who was fourth in the event last year, won comfortably ahead of St Jago’s Crystal Morrison, who was second in 13.06 seconds, while third went to Rosealee Cooper, also of St Jago in 13.43 seconds.

Lee's mark eclipsed the previous time of 13.04 seconds, which was set by Vere Technical's Britany Anderson last year.

Vere’s Amoi Brown made up for her fourth place finish last year, when she won the girls Class One 100m hurdles in 13.26 seconds.

Daszay Freeman, who transferred from Manchester to The Queen’s School this year, was second in 13.46 seconds, while third went to Holmwood’s Shanette Allison in 13.54.

Gabrielle Mathews was also in fine form for Hydel as she won the girls Class three 80m hurdles in 11.15 seconds. Janela Spencer from Manchester was second in 11.23, while third went to Danae Nembhard of St Jago in 11.28.
