The team of Serena Cole, Tina Clayton, Alexis James and Tia Clayton, easily carried Jamaica to victory in the heats of the women's 4x100 metres at the World Under-20 Championships at the Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium in Cali, Colombia on Thursday.

The men's team of Bouwahjgie Nkrumie, Adrian Kerr, Mark-Anthony Daley and David Lynch finished their heat second, behind Japan. The teams advanced to their respective final, which will both take place on Friday.

Jamaica, in heat one of the women's event, led from start to finish to win by a widening margin. The quartet completed the distance in 43.28 seconds to finish ahead of Italy, with 44.69 and France's 45.20. Italy and France did season best.

Tina Clayton and Cole won the gold and silver medal in the women's 100 metres on Wednesday as the Jamaicans are favoured to retain the 4x100 title they took in Nairobi, Kenya, last year.

Meanwhile, Nkrumie and Kerr had difficulties on the first exchange as Jamaica never recovered fully, to hand Japan the victory in a season best of 39.12 seconds. Jamaica did 39.24 seconds with Peru ending third in a national Under-20 record of 40.96.
