#Carifta2023 | Reynolds the only gold medallist among 800m-running Jamaicans
Alikay Reynolds scored Jamaica's lone gold medal in the 800 metres as the 50th Carifta Games continued from Nassau, Bahamas.
Reynolds won the under-17 girls title in 2:14.57 minutes with Barbados securing silver and bronze through Ashlyn Simmons (2:16.28) and Chanecia Brown (2:16.81). KevonGaye Fowler was fourth in 2:16.85
The under-17 boys title was won by Guyana's Javon Roberts in 1:56.64 with Jamaica's Delano Todd getting silver in 1:57.44 and Trinidad and Tobago's Brandon Leacock, third in 1:58.17.
Jamaica were shut out of the medals among the under-20s with 400-metre hurdles champion Michelle Smith of the US Virgin Islands, winning her second gold medal in 2:09.72. Another champion at these games, Layla Haynes of Barbados, who successfully closed late in the 1500, found herself second in 2:11.90 and Haiti's Victoria Guerrier, third in 2:11.99.
Kishay Rowe had the same time but was left just off the podium.
In the under-20 boys’ final, Trinidad and Tobago secured first and third with Nathan Cumberbatch taking the title in 1:51.34 and Stefan Camejo getting bronze in 1:52.92. Favian Gollop of Barbados was second in 1:52.33.
