Black-robed ‘Trump cards’

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Many voters regard politicians as flim-flam con artists who make promises during election campaigns, when they are so eager to shake your hand. When elected they shake your confidence, by blatantly breaking almost every promise they ever made.

We often hear claims that a candidate is a different type of politician, and this may be true of President Donald Trump. So much controversy surrounded his very lengthy campaign, but he kept several promises by signing 26 executive orders on inauguration day. He’s been signing many more at a breakneck speed ever since, and must run the serious risk of developing writer’s cramp. Even his most ardent supporters are surprised that he acted so rapidly on so many fronts, and many fear that he will trip himself up.

In some cases executive orders appeared to be disarming spur-of-the-moment decisions, and not not altogether logical; typical of President Trump’s style for most of his business career. In fact, about a week into his presidency, the White House rescinded a memo stemming from an executive order that had frozen federal grants and loans causing widespread confusion.

In the world’s most litigious country, so many lawyers are rubbing their money-grubbing and sweaty palms together, while salivating at the thought of lucrative court challenges to several executive orders. All this is happening as media mavens report on senate confirmation hearings for a gaggle of the president’s hand-picked cabinet nominees, many of whom are colourful, controversial and unconventional with sometimes dubious and flawed backgrounds that pundits see as incompatible with government hierarchy. Unfortunately, over several years, some members of the mainstream media have contributed to the chaos that now ensues, by undying support of woke policies that are being cast aside with the stroke of a felt-tipped marker wielded at the Oval Office’s famous Resolute Desk. Only one example is necessary to explain the hullabaloo in the chattering classes, and that would be President Trump’s declaration during his inaugural address that only two genders would be recognised forthwith. They are male and female, and this became necessary after years of ultra-woke policies that enumerated no less than 72 genders, defined at www.medicinenet.com.

Like it or not, during his term as 45th president he ensured the US Supreme Court was stacked in his favour; now as 47th President he has to overcome the aforementioned court challenges, and will be greatly dependent on those black-robed ‘Trump cards’.
