St Thomas minority leader disappointed with circumstances surrounding swearing in of new JLP councillor
Minority leader in the St. Thomas Municipal Corporation Hubert Williams is expressing disappointment that People's National Party (PNP) councillors were left out of the swearing in for the new councillor for the Yallahs division the Jamaica Labour Party's John Lee.
Williams asserts that Lee, who defeated the PNP's Constantine Bogle in the April 27 by-election, was secretly sworn in following a meeting of the corporation's finance committee yesterday.
According to him, no attempt was made to inform PNP councillors about the ceremony.
He says it was expected that the ceremony would have been held during the corporation's monthly meeting scheduled for next week Thursday.
With Lee taking office, there is now a 5-5 tie in the St. Thomas Municipal Corporation.
The corporation is currently chaired by Councillor for the Port Morant Division Michael Hue, who took office in March after his JLP colleague Lenworth Rawle resigned from the chairmanship.
Hue was the deputy mayor.
With Lee's swearing-in out of the way, attention is now expected to turn on who will take up that post.
