Teen boy charged for murdering Westmoreland couple as they slept
A 17-year-old boy from Hanover has been charged with the murder of a couple as they slept at their home in Negril, Westmoreland in May.
The boy was not named in a police statement, likely because he is below the age of 18.
The teen has been charged with two counts of murder, possession of a prohibited weapon and using a firearm to commit a Felony.
The gun attack took place in the community of Nompriel Heights on May 23.
The Savanna-la-Mar Police report that at about 11:30 p.m., 62-year-old fisherman, Kevin Whitmore and 49-year-old Althea Hunter were sleeping at home when they were awakened by armed men who kicked open their front door.
The men entered the house and opened gunfire, hitting them multiple times before fleeing the scene.
The police were summoned, and on their arrival, the couple was taken to the hospital, where Whitmore was pronounced dead.
Hunter was treated and admitted but later succumbed to her injuries.
The boy was captured on August 8 during an operation.
