A 31-year-old man who was accused of defrauding a credit union of over $23,000,000 has been freed in the St Catherine Parish Court.

Zavia Bailey, a labourer from Spanish Town, St Catherine, was released after the Crown offered no evidence.

Bailey had been facing charges of uttering forged documents, obtaining money by means of forged documents, and conspiracy to defraud.

He was represented by attorney-at-law Rodain Richardson.

"I am pleased with the outcome, as from the onset, my client maintained his innocence, and justice has finally been served," Richardson said.

The allegations were that in 2020, Bailey was arrested and charged with defrauding the credit union of $23,295,929 through a fraudulent scheme.

He was accused of conspiring with others in the granting and disbursement of loans.

A verification process by the company uncovered fraudulent activities, leading to an investigation that resulted in his arrest and subsequent charges.

Bailey made numerous court appearances and maintained his innocence throughout.
