Windies fall short in fourth T20 against Australia
The West Indies lost their fourth Twenty20 (T20) International game against Australia by four runs in Gros Islet, St Lucia on Wednesday night.
The series now stands at 3-1, with one game to go.
Set 190 to win, the home side could only manage 185 for six, despite a brilliant half-century from Lendl Simmons and some lusty late order hitting from Fabian Allen and Andre Russell.
The regional side needed just 11 runs to get in the final over of the run chase, however, Mitchell Starc bowled a peach of an over to Andre Russell to concede just six runs to seal their first win of the series.
Russell eventually ended on 24 not out, while Fabian Allen was devastating in his 14 ball knock which yielded 29 runs with two fours and three sixes. The duo added 47 runs for the sixth wicket.
Simmons led the run chase with 72 from 48 balls to get things going, as the right-hander anchored the innings while hitting 10 fours and two sixes.
Evin Lewis chipped in with 31 from 14 balls, as Player of the Match Mitchell Marsh bagged a career-best three wickets for 24 runs, while Adam Zampa took two wickets for 20 runs.
Earlier, Marsh also starred with the bat as his 75 from 44 balls helped the Aussies to put up their highest total of the series so far of 189 for six.
Marsh hit four fours and six sixes, as he and captain Aaron Finch who made 53, added a record 114 runs for the second wicket against the West Indies.
Dan Christian chipped in with an unbeaten 22 as leg-spinner Hayden Walsh Jr was once again the star with the ball for the regional side, bagging three wickets for 27 runs.
The teams meet again at the same venue on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Jamaica time.
