Member of Parliament for South West St. Ann, Ernest Smith wants the government to allocate $200,000 in emergency funds to help ease the effects of the drought on his constituency.
Mr. Smith said the prolonged drought is threatening the closure of several schools in the constituency where water tanks are running dry.
He said one rapid response water truck serves the entire parish and another, which is assigned to the parish council, is defective.
Mr. Smith said the money would be needed to truck water to the affected schools and communities.
Private suppliers will have to be employed to meet the demands for water.
