The Agriculture Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton said he would be visiting yam farmers in Trelawny next week to discuss the decline in their production.
Dr. Tufton announced that more focus would be placed on yam, potato and cassava production as a supplement to rice importation.
Dr. Tufton said the government is also considering the use of cassava for animal feed.
The minister said the review follows complaints by farmers that the institution is inefficient.
The Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ) has approved a $250 million loan package to be lent through the PC banks and other financial institutions to improve the agriculture sector.
