New Commissioner of Customs to be named
A new Commissioner of Customs is to be named today and it is expected that former Director of Elections, Danville Walker will fill the post.
The position will become vacant when current Commissioner of Customs, Hector Jones goes into retirement today after 39 years of service to the department.
Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Audley Shaw disclosed this while speaking at the Jamaica Civil service Association’s Annual general meeting yesterday.
In making the announcement, Mr. Shaw said the Customs Department would be overhauled in order to increase revenue collection.
During his presentation last month in the budget debates, Mr. Shaw said the government would also be implementing measures to reduce corruption among tax and customs officials.
It is believed that Danville Walker could be the person called in to clean up the department.
Mr. walker recently resigned from his post as Director of Elections due to controversy over his dual citizenship.
