A patient of the Kingston Public Hospital this morning jumped from the third floor of the building seriously injuring himself.
It is understood that the patient was suffering from a psychological condition.
Hospital officials said the man stood inside a ward on third floor for several minutes threatening to jump through the window.
Members of the medical staff tried to dissuade and were approaching the patient, when he leapt from the building.
One witness said the man landed on an iron gate with barbed wires.
He also said it appeared that the patient sustained broken bones and other injuries.
Novelene Jones, Chief Executive Officer of the Kingston Public Hospital was not available to comment on the matter.
