Dr. Carolyn Gomes from the pressure group Jamaicans for Justice announced a second batch of 100 police trainees are to participate in a human rights training programme.
The recently completed Strategic Review of the constabulary force had pointed to a general lack of regard by the police for human rights.
The report has recommended that emphasis be placed on human rights in training.
According to Dr. Gomes, the government has already approved this initiative.
The programme, which started last month, is being undertaken by Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ), Amnesty International, as well the Independent Jamaican Council for Human Rights.
All police trainees will undergo at least 35 hours of human rights training.
