Security force needs more money

National Security Minister, Colonel Trevor MacMillan, said $1billion is needed to bring the Police Training Academy to the required standard.

He was speaking yesterday during a tour of the facilities at the Jamaica Police Academy in Twickenham Park, St. Catherine.

He said the $1 billion would allow the force to produce the numbers and quality police personnel that will have a significant impact on Jamaica’s crime problem.

He said $400 million would be spent on the training school for this year.

Colonel MacMillan said the personnel shortfall of almost 4,000 could be eased, if buildings that were damaged during recent hurricanes were repaired.
