St Catherine fisherman involved in drugs for gun trade fined $800,000

St Catherine fisherman Gaffi Daley who was held with over 400 pounds of ganja that the police say was destined for the drugs-for-guns trade has been fined $800,000 and sentenced to a total of 16 months in prison at hard labour.

Thirty-four-year-old Daley, who is of Hellshire, Portmore address, was sentenced yesterday in the St Catherine Parish to three months hard labour for possession of ganja, 6 months at hard labour for taking steps preparatory to export ganja and fined $800,000 or 6 months at hard labour for use of conveyance.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

Daley was arrested by the police on the night of Sunday, June 3 following the seizure of 490 pounds of ganja at the intersection of Lakes Pen and Municipal Boulevard in the parish.

He was subsequently charged and pleaded guilty when he appeared in court on Tuesday, June 12.

The Narcotics Police and the Financial Investigation Division are continuing the financial aspect of the investigation under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
