"At the end of the day, I will be a councillor for everyone – whether green, yellow, orange, pink [or] blue."

This sentiment was shared by the People's National Party's (PNP) Sydney Rose, incumbent councillor for the Treadways division in St Catherine North Western, who expressed confidence in his re-election.

Rose cast his vote at the Linstead Primary School at approximately 9:30 am. He is up against Jamaica Labour Party's candidate Calvin McLean.

Speaking with The Gleaner, he expressed that he has been "working, working" to ensure that he has the victory.

With 29 votes more than the JLP's candidate Monique Simpson, who garnered 846 votes, Rose won the division in the 2016 local government elections.

He said he was anticipating that his victory numbers today will far exceed that of the results of 2016, noting that his priorities will be fixing the roads throughout the division.

"So far, I've been able to maximise on water which is about 98 per cent within my division, but the roads are in deplorable conditions and I think that's number one," Rose said.

"As I speak, we are working on breaking ground for a new call centre in Treadways and also a new health centre...so those are the two things, outside of the road.”

A considerable number of security personnel from the Jamaica Constabulary Force were observed on the scene.

Responding to this, Rose explained that it was a preventative measure "to suppress or to treat with any situation that might arise."

The Linstead Primary School is being used to facilitate seven polling divisions.
