Calabar’s Jamal Stephenson suffered a setback at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships after pulling up injured in heat seven of the Boys’ Class One 100m preliminaries at the National Stadium on Tuesday.

Stephenson, considered a medal contender, entered what was expected to be a comfortable heat.

However, his strong start quickly unravelled as he pulled up in visible discomfort midway through the race.

The sprinter was able to leave the track on his own.

The injury continues a run of misfortune for Stephenson.

He was disqualified in the semifinals in 2025 and later reinstated on appeal, but only after the final had already been completed.
