Jamaica’s Shanoya Douglas and Natrece East are through to the semi-final of the women's under-17 200 metres at 50th Carifta Games being held in Nassau, Bahamas.

Both athletes won their respective heats with East, 24.16 seconds, clocking the second-fastest time headed into the semis.

Running in heat five, East was challenged by Guyana’s Tianna Springer, who already has the under-17 400-metre title under her belt. Springer, who clocked 24.27, came off the curve just behind East and tried to use her 400-metre strength to get by the 15-year-old, who held her form to take the heat.

Douglas, 24.54, on the other hand, came off the curve behind the fast-starting Aniya Nurse of Barbados, 24.65, and Haiti’s Breanne Sydney Barnett, 24.73, to surge past both down the stretch.

The differing strategies meant Douglas enters this afternoon’s semi-finals with one of the slower qualifying times.
