Rachel Scott thanks mother, J'can women after winning CFDA honour
Erykah Badu celebrated as fashion icon
Rachel Scott was overwhelmed with emotion while accepting her award for American Womenswear Designer of the Year at Monday night's Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards in Manhattan.
The Jamaican designer, who is based in New York, thanked her mother and the women in Jamaica who crochet her designs, as she received the night's final award.
“I’ve spent so much of my career on design teams so I’m really unaccustomed to this recognition,” the Diotima label head and creative director, said.
Scott has worked for designers such as Rachel Comey in New York.
Known for her exquisite knitted designs, she was awarded the Emerging Designer of the Year Award in 2023.
The CFDA Awards were held at the American Museum of Natural History at a ceremony that attracted celebrities like Katie Holmes and Kylie Jenner, designers and fashion industry giants to honour be best in design.
Earlier in the night Erykah Badu was bestowed with the Fashion Icon Award by the CFDA.
She accepted the award wearing a headdress of jewels and a Thom Browne jacket, playfully telling the audience it was an honour she’d been hoping to get most of her life.
